What’s in a Venue?

When planning a wedding you have lots of choices and options when it comes to everything. From the food to the décor, you are in the driver’s seat, and this, of course, extends to your venue. And chances are, you are going to look at a few different venues when planning your wedding, so here are some key points that you should remember when looking for a venue.

Look at the Space Critically

How many people can the venue hold? Will there be enough room for all the dinner tables and a dance floor? These are all important questions to keep in mind when searching for your perfect wedding venue. If you are looking at a space and it is the cutest barn of your rustic wedding dreams, but it can only safely host 150 guests, and you are planning on 200, this may not be the ideal venue for you. On the flip side, if you are planning a small wedding but looking at a larger venue for 300+ guests, this may create a sense of emptiness in the room with a small group of people, and a smaller venue might suit your needs better.

Location. Location. Location.

If you are planning on having your ceremony in a different place than your reception, you should think about the commute between the two places. If your ceremony is in your family church, but you are looking at a venue an hour away, you might want to consider a different venue. Also, if you’re getting married in a larger city, you should think about the parking situation for your guests, and if you will need to provide transportation for them from the ceremony to the reception.

The Staff Matters

You want to make sure that you are not only comfortable with the staff of your venue, but trust that they will meet your needs come the big day. Many venues will also have you work with an event coordinator to help organize the space, plan the décor, and handle deliveries and set up for your reception. You are going to want someone experienced, organized, and knowledgeable about planning and hosting large events, especially weddings. But if you feel like your needs are not being met or cannot be met by your venue and their staff, then this is a venue red flag. You want to make sure that you and your guests have a wonderful day, and the staff goes a long way in making this happen.

These are three of the major things to keep in mind when looking for your perfect wedding venue. And they will play off come the big day!
